SWIM details, things you may not know, and end of season events & deadlines
Some things you may not know….
Here are some details which may be good, especially for new families. But even for those who are old hat, there are reminders and deadlines for our last few events of the season. I know this is a bit long, but please read through...it will benefit your kids!
On Fridays, at AM swim practice, we have water polo and donuts, it’s a team favorite, Friday July 5 is the last one for donuts. Friday, July 12, will be waterpolo and pancake breakfast! The food is for pre-team too!
Our pep rallies have a theme….dress in theme related garb for the meets! The last pep rally is July 12. Pep rallies are not a drop off event and require parent supervision and attendance for all athletes ages 14 and under. Thanks for your support! Pre-teamers are always welcome at pep rallies.
During practices coaches focus on a LOT of things to make your swimmers better and faster! But practice is not the same as private lessons. Even if you are on the swim team, you can still do private lessons. If you need to work on stroke refinement, starts, finishes, flip turns, getting legal, or just a few extra pointers...private lessons may help. Contact the coach of your choice. Also please remember, you are always welcome to ask coaches questions, but please don’t do this during practice. Email or find a coach during a non-practice/non-meet time if you need to chat.
Photo Share! Share your photos, we will have a slide show at the banquet and we want a wide variety, plus the photos are fun to look at. Our share is on a google platform.
Ribbons! You earn ribbons at meets, top 6 finishers at A meets and top 12 finishers at B meets. On the swim team table (across from the check-in desk at the club) is a box. In the box are file folders with your swimmer’s last name. Check the the folder….if you’ve raced, you probably have ribbons. Pre-team, there will be ribbons if you participate in the MINI MEET (details coming soon!)
Relay Carnival! July 7. This is an all relay meet and it’s super fun. It’s like an A meet. You mark your availability ASAP! And coach will choose who swims. We often go deep in our roster to complete all of our relay teams, so if you are interested, MARK AVAILABILITY by Monday, July 1, at NOON. It’s a holiday weekend, you never know who will/will not be in town.
Divisionals, July 20. The top 2 swimmers will swim in each event! This is not the day to be on vacation! (not only because of Divisionals, but also because of BANQUET!) The line up will be released on or before Sunday July 14 and swimmers who are selected will have an extra week of practice. Even if you don’t think your child is fast enough...if you are in town and want a shot at qualifying, mark that your child as available. Sometimes we have to go deep into our roster! Mark now! Final Deadline to declare availability will be July 13 at 2pm.
Banquet! July 20. This is our culminating team event. It includes paper plate awards for all swimmers in attendance, high point trophies and special awards, slide show, BIG dessert bar (because everyone brings a dessert to share!) and an awesome dinner. Please plan to come, your kids won’t want to miss it. Your team fees cover most of the cost, but there is a nominal $5/fee for attendance for athletes and parents. Extra guests are $10/pp. We ask everyone to please bring a dessert to share! You RSVP and pay through swimtopia under the Sign-Up (Meets/Events) tab (go to the end of the list!). If you’d like to attend the swim team banquet, be sure you sign up for SWIM banquet, NOT the dive banquet! This event is open so you can RSVP anytime over the next 2 weeks! We must have your RSVP and payment (you pay when you RSVP so have your credit card handy when you RSVP) by Sunday, July 14th at 1159pm. We have to give the final numbers to the caterer. (Pre-team, you have the Mini Meet and Nemo Night on July 11 starting at 530. Once you move up to swim team, you will join the swim team banquet!)
Stroke and Turn positions and Starters (and Referees!)….these jobs require taking a class and then doing a short apprenticeship with experienced certified officials who support our team….you can get trained next May (2020) and we would LOVE to have you do it. Think about it…..and reply to this email if you’d like more info.
Leadership team….want to take on more of a roll, but you are unsure what to do...reach out. We’d love to chat with you about how you can help out more this season or next! This team only works because of the awesome parents that step up and volunteer. So again, think about it….
Thank you Cuda Families for all you’ve done to make this season a success so far! We look forward to 3 more GREAT weeks!
