Swim Team: Swim team members must be able to swim a 25-meter lap of the pool in BOTH freestyle and backstroke in less than 60 seconds without touching the bottom or lane ropes.
8 & UNDER SWIM EVALUATION the first Tuesday OR Wednesday of practice (or the first day a child attends practice after that). IT IS MANDATORY THAT SWIMMERS SWIM A LAP OF FREESTYLE AND A LAP OF BACKSTROKE IN UNDER 60 SECONDS PER EVENT IN ORDER TO BE ON THE SWIM TEAM. If the swimmer does not yet qualify for swim team, he/she can take private lessons or join pre-team until he/she does pass. Swimmers will have the opportunity to be reassessed every week. The idea is not to stress anyone out! Just to be sure that your child is placed in the correct program.
Pre-Team: Pre-team swimmers are able to float, get around the pool (i.e. from the diving board to the ladder) and swim some freestyle and/or backstroke but are not strong enough for the swim team. Usual age range is older 5s to 7s and possibly some 8s. This program is for children that cannot yet swim freestyle and/or backstroke a full length of the pool (25 meters without touching the bottom or lane ropes) in less than 60 seconds. The pre-team provides that “critical stepping stone” for children to eventually move onto the regular CSST by strengthening all their swimming skills. The pre-team is not designed to take the place of swimming lessons. Supplementing the pre-team experience with swimming lessons will more rapidly improve a beginning swimmer’s skills. A caregiver is not required to be on deck, but it is still a good idea and encouraged. Pre-Team will practice with swim team during select swim team times (TBD) with a higher swimmer to coach ratio and a more "hands on teaching" approach. As pre-team is a part of swim team, there will only be one 4-week sessions. Swimmers who are meet the eligibility requirements can move up to swim team during the season. Please talk to the coach if you think your child is ready to try and pass the swim team test. Pre-team will start Monday, June 15, 2020.
Mini Cudas: The mini-cudas are the youngest swimmers, learning to blow bubbles, float, begin stroke technique, etc. The age range for this program is older 3s, 4s and 5s and some 6s. Four 1-week sessions will be offered. A parent or caregiver must be on the pool deck at all times during the mini-cuda lessons. Requirements: Children should be comfortable being in the water and being apart from a parent or caregiver. If your child is not comfortable with one or both requirements, then please sign up for private lessons instead.
Dive Team: For children and young adults from 5-18 years old. No prior diving experience necessary. You can participate in both swim and dive programs. You don't have to choose one or the other!
Get that CUDA Spirit!
